Ringing in the New Year at LF!

Happy New Year from Landon Farm!
I feel so blessed to have you as a part of this barn family. I am extremely excited to continue into the new year surrounded by the most amazing families and horses. The crew that makes Landon Farm a community is kind, committed, happy, goal-oriented and truly wonderful people of all ages and backgrounds.

We have had a lot of exciting things happen during the holidays.

Here is a quick recap....

We had several riders presented with horses that they will lease for a year. We are so excited to watch these teams grow together!

Brennan and Perry
Eve and Cowboy
Madison and Duncan
Blaire and Bob
Reagan and Thunder
Ashleigh/Ella and Addie

We also want to celebrate a rider that partnered with their horse days ago....

Rachel is going to half lease Bob with Blaire and move into performance. Rachel leased Perry in academy last season and was very successful. We look forward to the next chapter in her equestrian career.

Santa also delivered saddles to Madison and Eve. The saddle is such an important tool for the rider’s balance, development and communication with the horse.

The farm was very busy over the past two weeks with camps, lessons and NYE sleepover.

We had a two-day camp with 12 riders that ranged from 5 years old to 12 years old. The kids rode twice a day. Participated in hands-on horsemanship skills on the ground and made cool crafts.

NYE celebration at the farm had 10 kids that stayed up until midnight to ride their horses into the New Year. The night consisted of games on horseback, horse decorating, birthday cards for all of the horses, cookie decorating and soooo much more. The toast at midnight with sparkling cider was a huge hit!! I’m still trying to recover from all of the fun.

Custom & Used Show Clothes

Calling all riders that will need custom show clothes made. Deregnacourt Ltd will be in Greensboro on January 11. We need to schedule an appointment for you ASAP.

Deregnacourt is famous for their riding clothes. The fit, material, alterations department and customer service is impeccable. They come all the way from Michigan to service this area with their expertise.

Please email the barn to secure your appointment time.

Used clothes-

Kathryn needs to measure your rider ASAP. Those measurements will be sent to two consignment clothing stores for saddleseat riding. They will select garments that may work and mail them to the barn (after you provide a cc for shipping) for you to try. We will try on clothes. KATHRYN will approve the appropriate outfit. You will pay the consignment store with the CC and pay to ship back the clothing that was not chosen.

**** Kathryn has to approve all show clothes. You will not be able to show with clothing that was not approved. This is not negotiable. Quality control is a must. Correct clothing is an extremely important part of the impression you make in front of the judges; moreover, a reflection of Landon Farm and the product they put into the show ring.

Babies growing up....

Every January 1, saddlebreds, Morgan’s, hackney ponies and Arabians celebrate their birthday (regardless to the date they were actually born). That means that Elivette and Kronos are 2 years old and Claire is now a yearling (one-year-old). We are so excited about their development and potential! All 3 babies are owned by CRW Wine and Equine LLC. The faces behind the LLC are Bob and Sharon. You can catch them feeding carrots, apples, and bananas to all of the horses to the farm when they visit.

Baby James and Bea are the other babies that are ready to debut in the show ring in 2020. Bea is Mary T’s 3-year-old Pony of the Americas (POA). This pony has been broke to ride by Mary. In addition, Mary taught Bea several tricks such as how to bow and lie down on command. Baby James is owned by our barn manager, Kelly T (Mary’s mom). Kelly has assisted Mary as she has trained Baby James to pull a cart (drive). These two have learned so much because of Mary’s dedication to their training.

I have QUESTIONS....?!??

Kathryn loves to talk rider’s goals, horses, shows and anything that has to do with horses or the barn. Even though she loves to talk shop, asking her to answer in-depth questions can be very difficult in between lessons. She wants to give you her total attention but 5-10 minutes between lessons is usually not enough time to even scrape the surface. If you have questions, please schedule a meeting (in person or over the phone). The best way to contact Kathryn is to email the barn.

Another great resource is taking to parents that started in our program just like you (brand new and having to learn everything). Pick their brains and ask them about their journey. Below is a list of adults that would love to share their story. If you need their email or cell number, please let us know.

Cheryl W (Ashleigh’s mom)
Julie (Drew’s mom and DCL Equine LLC)
Sharon (CRW Wine and Equine LLC)
Kelly (Mary’s mom and barn manager)

Communicating with the barn

Emergency: If you have an emergency, please text Kelly or Kathryn on their cell phone. An emergency would involve the health of the rider or horse during the hours of 8 am-8 pm. Emergencies would include cancellations with 24 hours or less notice. Please remember that Kathryn works from 6:30 am (earlier at a show) until 8:30 pm (later at a show). She wants to answer all texts but my schedule often doesn’t allow for it. Please use the cell phone to text for emergencies.

Email:

Best way to communicate all non-emergencies Landonfarm@yahoo.com

When you email the barn, Kelly will intercept the email. She will then answer the email or forward it to Kathryn if necessary.

Just a reminder that you should communicate all rescheduling and cancellations by EMAIL to the barn.

Special Introduction

Make sure to meet our two newest horses.

Husky is a miniature horse. He’s very sassy and talented. He is being broke to ride and drive by Ashleigh, Ella, and Brennnan.

Cinder is short for Cinderella and is a welsh/Halfinger pony. She is cute as a button with her white hair and flea-bitten freckles on her face. This pony teaches beginner riders and the advanced riders love to play games on her or bareback ride.

GIANT CONGRATULATIONS

We have some horses and owners that have received recognition from the various equine associations for their success in the Showring in 2019.

Sharon and Boomer were the Kentucky County Fair High Point Amateur Fine Harness recipient!!! That means they showed and placed in the top ribbons in Kentucky. The state of Kentucky is a very competitive and difficult show circuit. In addition, they won ASAC Open Fine Harness High Point Champions. ASAC is a saddlebred association that represents both North and South Carolina.

Drew and Trooper rocked the Saddleseat Equitation division and won the high point for ASAC. This accomplishment was difficult because Drew did not compete in many shows sanctioned by this association. Drew and Trooper worked hard this season and the end of the year award is a well deserved!

Cersei and Sharon also won the high point for the ASAC country pleasure walk and trot division. Sharon did not get to ride much this season due to an injury (not horse related). She adores riding Cersei this award proves how well they perform together.

BARN HELPER/VOLUNTEER

Just a reminder that we love to get the kids more involved at the barn. Being a barn helper or volunteer is a great way to learn responsibility, work ethic, and teamwork.

DO NOT EXPECT to receive credit towards lessons for your rider’s “help”. Your rider is not that helpful when they are learning chores and responsibilities at the farm. They will take 10 times longer to do one chore. They will cut corners and I will have to go in behind them to make sure the task was actually completed. When your rider has PROVEN that their help actually makes our barn operate more efficiently, I will reward them with barn credit. Until then.... BE THANKFUL THAT I AM TEACHING THEM LESSONS THAT WILL HELP THEM GROW INTO PRODUCTIVE TEENS AND ADULTS. The barn IS NOT ABOUT “what do I get in return.....”. The barn IS ABOUT TEACHING THAT LIFE AND SUCCESS IS A PROCESS....ENJOY THE RIDE!!

Being a barn helper/volunteer is not for the weak of heart. This is not a glorified babysitting service. This is not about playing with ponies and horses. It’s about being a part of the everyday operation of a farm.

A helper/volunteer must be ready to commit to the following rules:

-Must come every week at the same time unless a different arrangement has been made

-can not walk around with cell phones in hand. Put in little house or tack room

-must be willing to complete any job asked of them. This includes sweeping, dusting, raking, cleaning tack. Every job is important when running a farm.

-must be respectful of senior helpers (Michelle, Rachel, Ashleigh, Mary)

-great attitude is a must. No complaining, pouting, or sassiness.

-must wear appropriate clothes :
muck boots, coveralls, winter gloves and lots of layers.

STILL INTERESTED??? That’s awesome and email the barn to set up a schedule!
